“Sensitive cinematography and intelligent editing maintain the tensity in Tal’s film between melodrama and parody. Such endearing acting in a character that is worthy of ridicule, empathy and who is also heroic. Ovadia is a tragic protagonist and a comic anti-hero. A Sancho Pancho like Don Quixote. Ovadia fights for his truth with exhausting determination.
Indirectly, the film poses the questions - what is cinema, what is art, what is culture? The critics, who pulverized the film “Nurit” (the most popular Israeli film of 1972) are no less ridiculous than the monologues in the film: “Dad, believe me, he seduced me.” Tal doesn’t suggest adopting poplar cinema as a model. He situates Ovadia’s life’s work in a context that is more fair, more sensitive.״

"מוכר הרגשות שיצר רן טל במהלך לימודיו באוניברסיטת תל אביב, מתעד שישה חודשים שבילה עם ג'ורג' עובדיה ובני משפחתו. הסרט הוא דיוקן נוגע ללב של אדם שהקולנוע הוא כל חייו, אבל נבצר ממנו לעסוק בו. התסכול והיאוש מהולים באופטימיות חסרת בסיס ובהשלמה. "

"עבודת צילום רגישה ועריכה אנטי לגנטית שומרות על מתח בין מלודרמה לפרודיה, משחק מלא חן בדמות שהיא גם נלעגת, גם מעוררת אמפטיה וגם הירואית. עובדיה הוא גיבור טרגי וגם אנטי גיבור קומי. דון קישוט במשקל סנשו פנצ'ו. הוא נלחם בנחישות עייפה על האמת שלו: ״סרט צריך לגרום לך לבכות״. באופן עקיף, שואל הסרט מהו קולנוע, מהי אמנות, מהי תרבות.
המבקרים, שקטלו את הסרט "נורית", הסרט הישראלי הפופולרי ביותר ב1972, יוצאים לא פחות נלעגים מהמונולוגים הפתטים בסרטים: "אבא, האמן לי, הוא פיתה אותי". הסרט לא מציע לאמץ את הקולנוע העממי למודל. הוא מעמיד את מפעל חייו של עובדיה בהקשר הוגן יותר, רגיש יותר."
